Everyone got here

Keith, Christine, Judi and Christopher

Christine and Judi arrived last night about 8. Both tired but as glad to get here as we were to see them. Keith has had a good day. Some friends have called from both Florida and Canada. He cheered up so much when he talked with them. They are both friends that he worked very closely with when Keith was designing rail cars. He has been up today a few times in the wheelchair and has enjoyed visiting. Keith and I have always enjoyed entertaining and having company and everyone's visits have been like a shot in the arm to him. Thank you to all who have come by.
Yesterday when we were waiting on both to get here, I would ask him what he was doing and he said watching the clock. Time, I have come to realize doesn't really mean anything to Keith. I don't mean this mean, but it reminded me of Christopher as a child asking " Are we there yet?", only it was "Are they here yet?". They are fussing at me to sit down and let them do. It is hard for me to let go sometimes when you used to doing everything yourself. I am trying to let them do.
Keith has had a good day and I am so thankful for the days like this. He has shown such an interest in what is going on today. I pray it will continue for him and can enjoy their visit. Also, he had visit from Mimmie and Uncle Joe today. This is my normal for now and I love every minute of it. I just wish I could hold onto and not let go.
Love,
Suzan
P.S. - I cannot get Christopher to smile no matter what I do. LOL

Hi Suzan,

It's DeAnne B again. I was thinking about a book that I read when we were helping my father-in-law pass. It was a great book and REALLY gave us some insight as to what was happening and why we do the things that we do when we are getting ready to die. The name of the book is Final Gifts: Understanding the Special Awareness, Needs, and Communications of the Dying
by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley. There were things that my father-in-law would say or do and without reading this book I think that we may have missed out on many things. It was written by nurses and doctors from hospice, which I found hospice to be very helpful. I am sure that many people are giving you advise and suggestions so I hope that I am not being to pushy but, I wanted to share this book with you. It was such a good book for my family that I bought a copy of it for everyone so we would know a little bit of what to expect. I read the book the first night that I bought it.

I am saying a prayer right now for Keith and your entire family.

I'm so happy to read that Keith had a good day yesterday and that he enjoyed the company. My prayers still surround you all.
